Israel Fausto Martínez Melero was born in Cuenca. He began his music studies in the Conservatory of this city with Francisco González and proceeded later to Madrid to study under the tutelage of María de Macedo. He obtained the Title of Professor of Cello with an award of “Extraordinary”.
Through a scholarship grant from the La Caixa Foundation, he completed a Performer's Diploma and a Master's Degree in Cello in Bloomington, University of Indiana, under the Professors Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and Janos Starker. He was nominated a member of the Honors Division of the University. During the span of his formation, he also attended master classes conducted by artists such as Mtislav Rostropovich, Bernard Greenhouse and Gÿorgy Sëbok.
He performed in concerts as a soloist or as part of a Chamber Group in recitals throughout Spain, Holland, the United States, England, France, Sweden, Portugal and Denmark. His repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary music, a field in which he has produced a number of world premieres.
He was winner of the “Jeunees Musicals” Competition in 2000 and in the “Young Artists Competition of Castilla la Mancha” in 2001, consequently obtaining the title of “Artist of the Year” in that region.
He is since 2003 Cello Professor in the “Manuel Castillo” Superior Conservatory of Music in Seville, combining his task of teaching with the continuous pursuance of his concert career. He has recorded for the labels Naxos and Perosi Musici, as well as been broadcasted in RTVE, Canal Sur and TCM. He collaborates regularly with specialized musical publications, contributing with articles related to the cello or the pedagogy of this instrument.
Regularly invited to give masterclasses and seminars in different countries, aswell as to teach in several National Youth Orchestras. He is Artistic Director for the “International Chamber Music Festival Joaquín Turina” in Seville.
Israel Fausto Martínez has among his upcoming professional projects the recording of the complete Bach Suites for cello solo.
