Dear Friends,

Welcome to our chamber music festival dedicated to the Seville composer Joaquín Turina and the art of chamber music. 2009 is the 60th aniversary for the composer's death, and we are proud of presenting our Festival Turina in Seville.

Sometimes music gives you moments of truth, moments where words and trivialities stop existing, and you feel like a better human being. Music has the power to express even what silence can´t express, and this is what makes it such a wonderful language understood by all human beings.

The art of chamber music reaches the essence of music making, communication. It is music spoken in the moment between the musicians, and helps breaking down the bounderies between the musicians and the audience. In our festival we would like the audience to step out of the busy world for some days, to come and share with us the most wonderful musical moments. Artists devoted to true music making makes you listen, performing works chosen to reach your heart.

Also this year we will offer you chamber music works by the most famous composers in the world together with chamber music works by Joaquín Turina. We are also proud to create a musical island where artists, students and audience come together to share the love for music in open rehearsals, master classes, workshops and concerts.

The concerts take place in some of Seville's most historical buildings, among them the famous church of the Monastery of La Cartuja, the house of the Family Salinas, who warmly opens their private house for the Festival´s opening concert, and the “Capitanía General” at “Plaza de España” with it´s treasure of a concert hall, opened to the public especially for our Festival!

We are truly grateful to each one of the public institutions, sponsors and volunteers who are making this Festival possible. Our Dear musicians are making an invaluable contribution to the Festival and the town of Seville with their endless energy and enthusiasm, not only giving concerts, but also generously sharing their knowledge with the young generation of musicians. It is with the wish to contribute to the musical life in Seville we are creating Festival Turina. Thank you all for your sincere interest in our Festival!

We look forward to see you in Seville, "The City of Music", for this special musical event.

Sincerely,
Benedicte Palko
Artistic Director.
